Cherchez La Femme : Who is ZUMBA BOOGS?

MOI!
If you asked me a couple years ago about Zumba®, I wouldn't have much to say about it. Today, Zumba® has become a huge part of my life, and this happened by chance thanks to my Mom! My Mom, an amazing woman with a youthful spirit, was the one who kept talking about how great Zumba® was and how I should try it out. I don't know what exactly made me want to try a class, but the first time I tried Zumba - I was hooked! I have always loved dancing and listening to Latin music. From Salsa to Merengue to Cumbia, this style and culture has always spoken to me. With Zumba® though, it's the best of every style and rhythm taught in such a creative way. I am so grateful to have found Zumba®, and I am grateful to have the chance to really express myself through these classes. And the best part is that this journey has just begun! I plan on taking this love so much further, because I truly believe I have found my calling with Zumba®. To me Zumba® is about passion, and fun, and a great way to express yourself through a positive exercise style and movement. I think it is life changing for so many people, and I am so excited to be a part of this amazing family now!

My Theory:
I consider Zumba® one of the most unique, fun, and beneficial exercise programs to have blessed the fitness market for its diversity and level of fun! There are numerous different styles of Latin dances mixed into Zumba® (Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Tango, Calypso, etc), and the beautiful part of this class is that you don't have to be a dancer or professional. Period. Zumba® allows anyone and everyone to have fun while dancing and exercising, and at the same time - learning different styles of movement to amazing music.
I believe the thing that keeps my students returning each week is the fact that the style of the class is FUN and easy to follow. While some routines or moves may be new and different, I know my students are comfortable with the way I teach, how I break down steps, and allow everyone to find their own rhythm while keeping up. I am a very goofy and friendly person, so I allow that silly and bouncy energy to teach all corners of that studio and everyone in it! I think my class reminds students of what it is to have FUN while dancing to great music, exercising, and learning new steps - all the while being themselves.

Boogie's Bio:
Since she was five years old, Lauren has always found happiness in movement and rhythm. Originally of French-Parisian descent, Lauren enjoyed her first taste of dance after moving to Dobbs Ferry, New York at the age of six. From the moment her mother signed her up for her first dance class at Hastings on Hudson Dance Studio, it was confirmed that dance would play a large role in her life. Lauren studied Jazz dance for two years at Hastings on Hudson and so began her exploration through dance and music. She would attend dance class three days of each week, and when she wasn't in the dance studio she would choreograph her own mini performances to any music played for her. After moving to Massachusetts at the age of ten, Lauren was introduced to Fran Steinert who would become her Jazz dance teacher and friend. Having studied with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and Alvin Ailey, Fran became her inspiration and guidance. From the age of ten to fourteen, she studied Jazz dance with Ms. Steinert at Fitness Express Studio in Great Barrington, MA. In between dance classes and recitals, Lauren performed in school musicals and plays. She continued to study Jazz dance on and off until she was eighteen. It was at this age that Lauren moved to England after graduating High School for one year, living with her family and danced at a variety of studios in London. From ballroom dance in Cheam, to street dance at Basement Dance Studios, to Hip Hop at Pineapple Dance Studios - Lauren took advantage of her year abroad and danced in London five days of the week for a few months. Lauren considers the year she moved back to the Berkshires, MA and met Wyatt Jackson as the year she really found herself through dance. Wyatt, hailing from Roxbury, MA and who taught Hip Hop at Eden Hill, would become her mentor. Lauren studied under Wyatt's direction for three years, learning not only the basics of Hip Hop dance but also the roots of the Hip Hop culture. At the age of twenty, Lauren performed in the Hip Hop segment of Alvin Ailey's "Moses" as a "breaker" and so began her adventure in New York City. Lauren moved to Manhattan at the age of twenty-one, where she pursued her dance career and studied Communication Arts at Marymount Manhattan College. She worked at a lounge in Chelsea called Opus22 for three years, and it was here that she was introduced to endless talented Hip Hop DJs and dancers. Instead of participating in Hip Hop dance classes, she studied in her own way by going out and watching b-girls and b-boys dance at events and clubs. With the fused techniques of Wyatt's teachings and self-taught style influenced by the likes of Rock Steady Crew, Lauren established her own Hip Hop groove. Lauren continues to immerse herself within the Hip Hop community through dance, video projects, and attending events - but today Zumba® is Lauren's love and focus.
Zumba® came into Lauren's life when she tried a class at SHOCKra studio in Manhattan in 2011. After attending weekly Zumba® classes at SHOCKra Studio, Lauren decided to become a licensed instructor and to make Zumba® her part time job. Within a few short months, she was teaching at multiple studios, gyms, community centers, corporate fitness facilities, as well as luxury condos - building her skill and craft. Teaching students between the ages of eight to eighty years old, Zumba® opened up a whole new world and a whole new career. Lauren recently decided to make Zumba® and fitness her full time career, and currently teaches up to thirteen Zumba® classes per week as well as Beginner's Hip Hop dance lessons.  She is currently licensed in Zumba® Basic 1, Zumba® Basic 2, Zumba® Gold, Zumba® Toning, Zumba® Kids, and Zumba® Sentao. Her new career focus has opened up many opportunities including performing in the 2013 NYC Dance Parade and DanceFest, local and national festivals, starting her own Zumba® inspired dance crew, and dancing in a promotional commercial for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Lauren plans to continue pursuing her fitness career by getting certified in Group Fitness and Personal Training.
Lauren's newest project is her dance crew, ZBoogie Crew. Inspired by Zumba® , ZBoogie Crew is a collaboration of different ZIN and dancers, all from different backgrounds and talents. Through this crew, she performs and advances through and within the Zumba® community. ZBoogie Crew represents the idea of having fun, different styles, and unity through movement and Zumba®. Her plan is to take over NYC with her groovy awesomeness and her crew, and eventually, the WORLD!!!
